The Mini Album for Lyna is done!!!

I just wanted to say a special THANKS to everyone who helped make the scrapbook for Lyna. I had hoped to get it finished so that Lyna would be able to enjoy it but sadly she passed away a couple days before I was able to bring it to her. Lyna fought a long hard battle and passed away in the comfort of her home with her family and closet friends. She passed away on June 29, 2010.

(Links are there, just have to move your mouse over the blank spot... don't know how to make them bold...sorry)

The scrapbook was given to her sister Lysa. She absolutely loved the book. Again, thanks to everyone who helped!

Here are some pictures of everyone's beautiful work. (If your page came in after the book was given to Lysa, it will be given to her to add to the book)

Update on Lyna's Scrapbook

Hi everyone!

More pages for the mini are coming in. I'm sorry I haven't been able to update. I've been out of town for the past few weekends and my family was sick these past few days. I've just been trying to play catch up with everything now.

I got an update on Friday about Lyna. She did go back into the hospital where she has been resting. As of right now they haven't been doing any treatments as her body is too week. They just been trying to keep her comfortable w/ pain meds. She's hanging in there. I believe that this past weekend she was supposed to go sky diving but I haven't heard if she went or not.

I'm just waiting on a few more pages, then should have it all put together. I know that there are a few pages that are coming from outside the U.S., so hopefully they come soon. I'll probably wait until the end of the week or so. At that point, I think I'll go ahead and bind what I have, and send it off to Lyna. Whatever comes in later, I'll punch holes for the binding and send it off to Lyna to add to the book.

To everyone who has sent in pages, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! They are so beautiful!

Scrapbook for Lyna

About 2 months ago, I heard this story from my sisters about this incredibly brave girl, Lyna who was battling Leukemia. Lyna went to school with my younger brother, Charlie. She was diagnosed in 2006 and has been battling it since. Recently, her condition has worsened and doctors have told her she has no more options. Through all this she has remained strong and an inspiration to everyone around her. I don't know, I've never even met her, but the few stories I have heard have touched me. Recently, I became her friend on Facebook and joined her support group. She has touched so many people around her. She has created a bucketlist, and as we read this post, she is on her way to New York to check off one of her dreams! She wanted to see Cirque De Soleil and Niagara Falls! I've heard that lots of people have been donating to help Lyna fulfill her bucket list!

After hearing about Lyna, I thought it would be nice to create a mini album for her to document her journey through life. If you would like to help me, please contact me. (email bjc_05@yahoo.com) Since we don't know how long Lyna has left with us, I would like to get this done ASAP so that she and her family/friends can enjoy it.

Details of the mini book:

Size: 6x6 chipboard mini album (front &back) with room for some sort of binding. Your page can be any shape, just please stay around the 6x6 size. When I get all the pages together, I'll punch the holes and bind with jute rope, ribbon or rings. (not sure yet)

Theme: I guess the theme is "courage". I think it would be great to see words throughout the book like love, dream, live, faith, courage, hope, wish, journey, cherish, joy, inspire, etc...no set colors, just have fun w/ it!

Journaling: If possible it would be great to have some sort of journaling on the page so that Lyna can document her journey. Just a small journal spot or tag to write on.

Timeframe: The time frame is fairly short, as Lyna is fragile. I was hoping people could have their pages to me by mid June, that way I could give it to Lyna asap.!

If you would like to help, contact me through PM. I'll then send you my address. If you would like to know a little more about Lyna, check out her support Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?tab=4#!/event.php?eid=118146788207909&index=1 or check out my youtube video http://www.youtube.com/mptuttle

Thanks so much! Lyna and her family will love this!

Ribbon Storage

Image borrowed from www.ribbonring.com

Like so many crafters, I struggle w/ storing my ribbon. Right now my ribbon sits in a drawer. I try to organize it but no matter what I do, it just ends up in a jumbled mess! It is so annoying when trying to do a project. I spend hours sifting through my stash and usually give up because I can't find what I need or I'm too lazy to untangle all the ribbon. It's a big ol' mess!

I literally just found the greatest ribbon invention ever! It is called a ribbon ring. All your ribbon is stored neatly on a metal ring. It is so cool! It is fairly inexpensive and you can fit tons of ribbon on it. Check out www. ribbonring.com

Canvas Picture Frame

Tonight I made this canvas picture frame as a birthday present for a friend. I think it turned out super cute! First I painted the canvas w/ acrylic pink paint. I searched through my ever growing stash of paper, finally deciding on this pink and green butterfly paper. It is actually wrapping paper! I just love it! I tore the edges and inked them w/ Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Peeled Paint. I adhered it w/ Modpodge and sprayed it w/ Pearl Glimmer Mist. I added some vintage lace to the bottom, some Prima flowers, a metal flower charm, an adage ticket, bling and some K& Company Madeline butterflies. I had a blast making this! I think I'll be making more in the future.
